What Causes Bone Spurs?
Bones spurs is the formation of calcium deposits as the body tries to heal the damage and are caused by the following factors:
- Physical stress or trauma to a joint areas such as the foot, spine, shoulder and neck
- People over the age of 40 are usually more prone to bone spurs than younger people
- Older people are also more prone to arthritis
- Obesity has been shown to be another factor that plays a role in formation of bone spurs due to the additional weight placed on joints
- Bone spurs in the foot are very often caused by shoes which does not properly (too tight)
Finally it has also been shown that an excess of certain enzymes in the body might destroy the joint cartilage quicker than the body can rebuild it which then in turn can lead to the formation of bone spurs around damaged cartilage and joints, most often on hands and feet.
Signs and Symptoms of Bone Spurs
- Usually there will be tenderness when walking or applying weight onto the area of the bone spur
- The best way to find out if bone spurs are the cause of your pain or discomfort is to undergo an X-ray scan which will show formation of bone spurs.
